Sustainable Printing

We are striving towards more sustainable printing here at First Paige across all areas of our business. Whether it’s the stocks we are using, how we’re printing or even how we’re operating in our shop, being as eco-friendly as possible is vital to us.

Let’s start with our biggest focus – the paper. All of our paper and card stocks are sustainably sourced and FSC certified, with a range of recycled card stocks also available on request. You can rest easy knowing that your order will be completed from responsibly-sourced paper and card, without compromising on the quality of your printing.
We source as much of our paper and card as possible from Midlands-based suppliers to keep everything as local as possible. As our shop is experienced in providing for businesses and individuals across Worcestershire, it all helps keep down the miles between you and your order.
We’re determined to keep wastage of paper and card to a minimum across all our printing runs. We use the minimum required amount of stock for each job (without compromising of the quality of the print), which also includes the option of double-sided printing across the majority of our printed products. Of course, some waste is unavoidable (off-cuts of card for instance) – these are responsibly recycled working with a local waste collection supplier.

We’ve refined our printing processes with all of this in mind. Our Inkjet printers (used for our posters and architect plans) run on water-based inks, which do not contain any plastic or PVC components present in other types of ink, meaning they are more environmentally-friendly.
All our printer types run on individual cartridges for each colour which can be individually replaced when empty rather (as opposed to large single cartridges containing all colours that have to be replaced when one colour runs out, regardless of how much ink is left for the other colours) – helping cut down on wastage. These toner and ink cartridges are then recycled rather than being sent to landfill, being reused in the production of other products - such as the manufacturing of pedestrian bollards.
We’re also taking steps to remove single-use plastic from our services. Our packaging for orders is made from non-plastic alternatives and recyclable wherever possible – whether that’s paper bags or cardboard boxes. We’re always on the look-out for new green alternatives to our previous non-recyclable materials, such as our recently acquired bio-degradable, compostable wrappers for our greetings and Christmas cards rather the cellophane, or our PVC-free material range for roller banners and banners.

It doesn’t stop there though! Our shop is efficiently heated through Economy 7 storage heaters and our printers are kept in an energy-saving mode when not being used. Our shop uses LED lighting, which is more efficient and longer-lasting than traditional lighting and all staff have committed to domestic recycling and to saving energy by switching off lights and equipment when they are not needed.
